We all get caught up in life, right? …or at least some of us do. For me, having children shifted my thinking and my instinct was to reallocate my time and resources to others who were hungry for attention, growth- or just flat out hungry for junk. Does this sound like you? It’s probably the story of many parents. We have children and our priorities change, our social lives disappear, and we become masters of balance.
It becomes even harder during a pandemic. COVID-19 isolated us. Parents became responsible for taking on larger roles and balancing even more. For me, that meant managing two small children under five, working a full time demanding job, running the household, and basically juggling it all. It was tough, but I am grateful that we are in good health and have jobs. I had no time for myself because I self-imposed most responsibilities on myself, leaving myself feeling exhausted physically and mentally. My husband was still working since he fell under the category of an emergency worker. I had no outlet.
I’m finding my way back to myself. Writing is my way to express myself and it makes me happy. It has been since I was a little girl and it is a large part of why I chose my career (which I love btw). Getting back to writing and trading thoughts with others is an important part of getting myself back on track.
Our country is getting back on its feet and doors are opening again. Similarly, we also need to relearn getting back on track with our lives and getting back in touch with ourselves.
My final thought for those who might be feeling stuck in isolation mode, even if not physically, then perhaps mentally blocked off from others: take a moment to remember one small thing that makes you happy. Something small, something that doesn’t require a great deal of time, but just do it.
Do it for yourself because you deserve it!
