Since having my son, I have steadily been losing weight. His 2-3 hour feedings combined with non-stop diaper changes and pumping for when I return to work, are melting the pregnancy weight away. I am not complaining, however it has become uncomfortable to wear my engagement ring. The ring is much too loose. I am nervous about it slipping off my finger while performing regular chores such as dishwashing or cooking.
At first, I tried the clear tape quick fix. I simply cut a small piece of clear tape and wrapped it around the ring until the ring was snug. This did not produce the result I had in mind and after washing my hands the tape started moving from its original locations. I also didn’t like how it looked when I flipped my hand around. Even more alarming was my son’s screaming reaction to it during diaper and clothing changes. It was scratchy against his skin.
So, I removed the tape and started investigating commercial ring resizers. There are a myriad of products that are available to consumers.
I wanted a solution that 1) wouldn’t be obvious, 2) cheap, 3) wouldn’t damage the ring.
Clear nail polish is used as a quick fix for jewelry to prevent the oxidized green staining to the wearer’s skin. So, why couldn’t I use clear nail polish to resize my ring?
I grabbed my 99 cent clear nail polished and went to work applying a quick layer of polish to the inside of my ring. Having no patience, I placed the ring in the freezer for 5 minutes. The polish set quickly in the freezer, so I applied a second layer of nail polish. I repeated this process 4-5 times before trying the ring on and I made sure the polish had set before trying it on. The ring was much snugger and didn’t twist around like it had before. I washed my hands a few times and the polish held up. Still, I wasn’t completely satisfied so the next morning I applied 2 additional layers to the inner lining of ring after reviewing where the gaps between the ring and my finger remained.

Now my ring fits snugly. I am so happy with the results I wanted to share with everyone.
I will provide updates with any developments.
update: This method worked for about 2.5 weeks until the nail polish cracked and fell off. It did, however, last until I found the time to resize the ring to fit. I did not see any damage to the ring. I would recommend this to someone seeking a cheap, comfortable and temporary method to resize a ring.
